It’s interesting to think that all the evidence suggests the first homo sapiens were biologically the same as we are, so their thoughts and language abilities could well have been as complex as our own.
Language would have developed as we did. As we climbed the evolutionary ladder towards being Homo sapiens our intelligence would have increased and our language would have grown in complexity along with this intelligence.
We still use a lot of body language as communication no matter which language we speak, and this aspect of our communication probably wouldn’t have changed much since we were apes.
I think so. It’s still happening today; new words are created or old words become used for new things. For example in the 60s if something was good it was “groovy”, but now you’d probably say it was “cool” instead.
Yeah. Over time language evolves too. If we were to try and read something that was in English a 1000, we would have problems. We might not recognise many words. As Will was saying, new words get added all the time. The other day they put the words “brain candy” and “babe” into the Oxford English Dictionary because of there increased use in the English language. Not sure what “brain candy” is though….. I think it means something like X-factor…..

Surely mental diarrhoea would be a more suitable term for X-factor?
