I think that in science, just like in every other area of life, it takes all sorts! You need a lot of people that think differently, in order to really cover all bases. Everyone brings something different to each discipline.

Saying that, I would say that some common, desirable personality traits would be enthusiasm for your particular subject. Research is great, because you can really get your teeth into a small area of research that you are truly passionate about. Passion would be another good word. Finally, I would say that you need an inquisitive mind. While this is something that drives people crazy as a child, you can put yuor curious nature to good use when you undertake research, and that positive energy really carries you through!

Sometimes in research, things don’t always go to plan, and so you really need to be able to stay positive when you’re not getting the results that you were hoping for. Cake and coffee are really good at lifting the spirits!

What kind of spirit do you think that scientists have? And looking at us, are we all as you expected scientists to be? What sort of spirit do you think a scientist should have? Maybe I can take some tips from you!
