• Question: What grades are acceptable to get into vetinary school.

      Hi alpha. I don’t know if there are a set level of grades which you need to get into vetinary school. The prospectus for each university will give you an indication of what grades they want from you.

      To become a vet I think it’s more important to have lots of relevant work experience. A friend of mine from school is becoming a vet and she volunteered at a local vet and went to a farm for the lambing season to help the sheep give birth to their lambs. Vet science is also one of the few degrees that still interviews most applicants and how you come across in this interview is important. The interview panel often use the interview as a way of deciding whether to offer you a place, and if they do offer you a place what grades they want from you. They tend to make the offer specific to each applicant.

      Heya alphadanny96, Will is right, it really depends on the University. If you seriously want to apply, then have a look at the Ucas pages on veterinary school to see what they offer. This will give you an idea on the a-levels (if you still need to decide) that you will need to do. I have attached a link at the bottom. I will admit the UCAS website can be a little confusing, but it will eventually give you all the information you need. I know for biochemistry, I needed to do Chemistry and Maths at A-level.

      Alpha, it’s worth spending sometime on the UCAS website and looking at all the possible places. I think you generally need A’s and B’s for vetinary science, as it’s quite a difficult course. All those animals to understand! – doctors have it easy with just one species 😉

      Pick a course and a city that you like, and talk to a few vets to see what they think of the different places.

      Sorry for the late reply. One of those days! 😛

      Yeah, I’d check out the different course requirements for different Universities. You can look online, or send the departments that you’re interested in an e-mail after getting their details from Google, and I’m sure they would be happy to send you a brochure (or prospectus) with all of the information that you need.

      I think that the lovely Cat in the Microbiology Zone has some vet history behind her, so maybe you could drop her a comment on one of their questions, and she could give you some more info? She’s absolutely lovely! Tell her that Suze sent you 😉
