      Hey! 🙂

I think the main reason that fossil fuels are bad is because when they are burned, carbon dioxide is released. Carbon dioxide is known as a greenhouse gas, which means that when it floats up to the atmosphere, it hangs around in a layer. This layer hugs the Earth like a blanket, keeping the heat in. We need some greenhouse gases to keep the Earth warm enough for us to live on however, when the blanket is too thick, the Earth can get too hot. This is known as global warming, and it is having a knock-on effect on our climate and seasons on Earth. It’s really important that we stop this from happening, and so we need to look toward alternative fuels, such as hydrogen.

When you burn hydrogen, the product is water. If we’re getting our hydrogen from water in the first place, it’s a complete cycle, and so nothing is getting used up, and there is no pollution being pumped into the atmosphere. The water-hydrogen cycle is a great carrier of what is just converted energy from the Sun. Each hour, the amount of energy that comes from the Sun is enough to meet the energy needs of the whole world for the whole year. One hour of sunshine equals one year’s worth of energy! That is why, if we can catch the energy, we are basically onto a winner, while also saving the planet from global warming and climate change.

Did I manage to persuade you then?!
