Question: How does an earthquake happen?

Force (from tectonic plates pushing together) builds up in rock layers underground, and eventually the rock fractures and the two sides of the break (fault) move in different directions.

They are very hard to predict because the its difficult to know where the rock will fracture under the applied force.
