• Question: How do you think the universe started?

      Hi sachat. I really have no idea 🙂 but to me it doesn’t matter. I take the view that we’re here now and that’s what matters.

      I think it started from a really tightly compacted point of space time, called a singularity, because that’s all that there was. Crazily, all of the universe around us appeared from this tiny speck. I’m not sure how much of it I believe though, as it’s just too much for my little brain to try and understand!

      The universe, now that it is here, is pretty amazing. There’s a lunar eclipse tonight, which I’m really looking forward to watching! The Earth is going to go between the Sun and the Moon, because they are coincidentally going to line up. The Earth will cast a shadow on the Moon, blocking out most of the light from the Sun, and some people say that it’s going to glow a warm red colour. Imagine a red moon! Keep your eyes open for it tonight 🙂

      Heya, I’m with Suze and Will, I don’t really know. I would say the big bang, but I don’t really understand how that started. I guess that’s why I’m a biochemist!

      I really don’t know. That’s one for the astrophysicists, but I don’t think they really know. They can describe what happened after it started, but not what caused it.

      Bit like an ant sitting on a stick of dynamite that explodes and wondering how it’s suddenly flying through space. We just don’t have enough information yet!
