Hi ellierose. I would say it is definitely a worth while experience if you have a genuine interest in what you’d be going to study. There really won’t be anyone there pushing you to do things so you need to want to do it yourself.

That said it is a brilliant experience 🙂 apart from a lot of drinking and partying if that’s your thing, you get loads of opportunities to do different things. I learnt to scuba dive at uni and a friend of mine took up archery. There are societies for almost everything at uni (including at York a Neighbours appreciation society – I was NOT a member!) and these are great places to meet people who aren’t on your course.

The whole experience also makes you a stronger more independent person. You have to motivate yourself, you have to get yourself out of bed in the morning, you have to cook for yourself, you have to do your own laundry (or go home with bags full of smelly socks lots!). It’s a cliché but it is character building.

I hope that’s answered your question and not rambled too much 🙂 let me know if you want any more info.
